Establishing Longevity
Updated On: May 25, 2009 (19:00:00) Print or Save this ArticlePRINT/SAVE Email Article to FriendEMAIL

Adult schools and occupational center budgets have been cut approximately 30% over last year.  It is probable that some current teachers in DACE will not be offered continuing employment - they will be laid off.
UTLA is presently working to clarify how longevity will apply to layoffs.  All DACE teachers have a contractual right to have their longevity calculated district-wide, not just at your present site (Article XXI, 4.7b3).
All DACE teachers who do not have permanent status (tenure) need to make this request.
Otherwise, you could be laid off without your total employment in DACE being taken into account.
Complete the attached form and send it to the address on the form.  Post this form on bulletin boards, and put copies in teachers' mailboxes.
In the meantime, UTLA is working to clarify how longevity will apply to expected layoffs.

N.B.: Although the deadline for filing the Request for District Wide Longevity was May 1, please continue to submit them.
