LAUSD proposed eliminating a number of leased adult school sites citywide as a cost-cutting measure. The district ratiionale was that schools should re-locate to district-owned facilities. A good idea in theory, but it has been the district that for decades has refused to construct adult schools for the 400,000 students that annually attend adult ed classes. Successive DACE administrators and school boards have chosen to lease rather than build, creating a legacy of lease costs for the district.
